COVINGTON, Va. (VR) — Curfman Hall was filled Wednesday night, December 17, with the music of George Frideric Handel as Maestro David Wiley led the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in a performance of Messiah. The concert, presented by the Alleghany Highlands Arts Council, is part of the organization’s annual Christmas season tradition of bringing the RSO to the Highlands.
The hour-long program featured Part One of Messiah and included performances by four guest soloists: Adelaide Trombetta, Cecelia McKinley, Brian Thorsett, and Daryl Duff. Arts Council Director Tammy Scruggs-Duncan opened the evening by thanking the event’s corporate sponsors.
Under Wiley’s direction, the orchestra and chorus delivered a cohesive and expressive performance, highlighted by the soloists’ interpretations of Handel’s demanding selections. The concert concluded with the “Hallelujah Chorus,” showcasing the full power and scope of the work.
The Alleghany Highlands Arts Council will present Ball in the House on March 31 at 7 p.m. in Curfman Hall. More information is available at arts4allalleghanyhighlands.com.
