Marilyn Miller Woods
Marilyn Miller Woods, age 95, the daughter of the late Earl Brent Miller and Cora Harlow Miller, died on Monday, December 15, 2025 at the Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation Center, Low Moor.
Marilyn was born in Clifton Forge, Virginia on November 9, 1930. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Thomas Roy Woods, and infant daughter, Elizabeth Brent Woods, a brother, E. Brent Miller, Jr. (Eleanora), and five sisters: Dorothy M. Pollock (John), Katherine M. Golladay (Woody), Marge M. Nichols (Charlie), Jeanne M. Proffitt (Buddy), and Loree M. Dew (Henry). She is survived by two sons, Thomas Brian Woods of Clifton Forge, and Timothy Jason Woods of Warm Springs. She is survived also by many nieces and nephews.
She was educated in the public schools of Clifton Forge and Madison College in Harrisonburg, Virginia, as well as other institutions for extended periods. In 1952 she married her childhood sweetheart, Tommy Woods. They lived four years in Prince George’s County, Maryland where she taught at High Point High School. They returned to Clifton Forge in 1956, and she taught at Clifton Forge High School and Clifton Middle School. She counted every day spent with young people as privilege and blessing. Her love for her husband and children was beyond measure.
She was baptized in the Christian faith at Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church where she later served as an Elder, a member of the Sara Lin Bible Class, Presbyterian Women’s Organization, and Circle One. She was a member of the Clifton Forge Women’s Club, the Twilight Garden Club, the Clifton Forge High School Alumni Association, and a life member of Presbyterian Women, the Virginia State Garden Club, and the Retired Teacher Association.
In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. Interment of cremated remains will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. The family will greet friends on Friday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
