HOT SPRINGS — Richard Byrd is seeking a seventh term on the Bath County Board of Supervisors in the November election.
Byrd currently serves as chairman of board of supervisors. He held the Valley Springs seat on the board from 1992 through 2011. He was re-elected to a four-year term in 2015.
“I want to thank those who have extended the opportunity to me to serve them in the Valley Springs District, and I look forward to continue serving them in the future,” he said. “They’ve always been a top priority to me, they always will be.
“I appreciate everything — not what I have done for you — but what you have done for me,” Byrd added. “You have made my life whole.”
In addition to his duties as a supervisor, Byrd has served eight years on the Bath County Social Services Board. He also held the title of director of emergency services for the county for 12 years.
He has also been associated with the Hot Springs Fire and Rescue Squad for many years along with the Mountain Crest Retirement Home Commission.
After working 39 years in the hospitality industry, Byrd is now retired and operating Ashwood School Antiques with his wife, Pat. He is also a certified fire and lightning insurance salesman with Highland Mutual Fire of Monterey.
A native of the Mountain Grove section of Bath County, Byrd was one of 15 children born to Alden and Margaret Bird. He left high school at the age of 17 to serve his country in the U.S. Army.
While serving in the military, Byrd was able to complete his education with the 82nd Air Borne Division.
He is a lifetime member of the VFW.
Byrd said he appreciated the support he has received from his Valley Springs constituents over the years, and he would appreciate their continued support in November.
“Thank you,” he said. “May God bless the County of Bath, the commonwealth of Virginia and the United States of America.”
All five seats on the Bath County Board of Supervisors are up for grabs on the Nov. 5 ballot.
