Iron Gate, Va. (VR) – In the regularly scheduled November meeting, the Town of Iron Gate got straight to important business matters. Mayor Kawahna Persinger announced that Vice Mayor Brandon Marshall is thinking of stepping down. This would put Marshall back in his regular seat on the council.  An official announcement isn’t expected until the end of next month.

Under the Trump administration, new lead and copper laws have required Iron Gate to make changes to its pipes. Under the new law, all pipes will be replaced over multiple years, with the project not expected to finish until 2037. The new law is in place to limit people’s exposure to lead. It will also mandate more testing on lead levels in the water people are drinking.

Persinger noted that people are asking her when the town will become part of the city. She responded by saying there are currently no plans in place for that to happen. The mayor also said the town would need to come up with the money to pay its bills to keep going and avoid being absorbed into the county.
