RONCEVERTE W.Va. (VR) – Last week, CAMC GVMC invited roughly 350 students from eight high schools and technical colleges to its second annual Healthcare Career Showcase at the WV Building at the State Fair of West Virginia.

Alleghany High Students were among the schools attending.

CAMC Greenbrier Valley Medical Center employees set up over 30 specifically themed booths to show students the many pathways and programs offered at their hospital. There will be interactive medical and scientific activities at booths to drive engagement and give students the ability to potentially see life-like experiences in the medical field.

From left, Covington Middle School math teachers Addie Holesapple, Victoria Bauguess, Jennifer Miller, Teresa Shepard, and Crystal Wimmer shared good news with the Alleghany Highlands School Board on Monday night. They explained how aligning lessons with Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) — matching instruction to what students are expected to learn — helps students succeed. Covington Middle School saw a 30 percent rise in first-quarter English benchmark scores from last year, and Alleghany High School had 23 scores over 500 on the fall SOL writing tests. (AHPS Photo)
