CLIFTON FORGE, Va. (VR) – Members of the community joined Mountain Gateway Community College leadership this week to recognize and thank the donors who continue to strengthen the school’s scholarship fund. MGCC Educational Foundation Executive Director Bruce Loving reminded guests that every contribution directly opens the door for students who might not otherwise have the financial means to pursue their education.
Loving highlighted the newly established Teenie and Warren Keagley Fund, which will join the college’s permanent endowment. This fund has been established in memory of Mr. Warren Keagley, whom recently passed away. He also introduced the Faye Simmons Memorial Scholarship, another new addition that will become part of the endowment. Susan and Ron Goings promised her mother that a fund would be established in Faye’s memory. The George Costa memorial scholarship was also established in his memory, by his wife Helen. The Elaine and Mark Nelson scholarship was established as well.
Loving also shared that the late longtime Covington resident Mildred McCabe left an $800,000 gift to the MGCC Educational Foundation. He noted that while McCabe never attended the college, she “believed in the power of education, the promise of opportunity for lives to be changed for good. That’s the kind of faith in the future that humbles us and reminds us why this foundation exists.”
College President Dr. John Rainone added that this is believed to be the third-largest single gift the college has ever received.
