COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Alleghany Highlands Regional Library was chosen for a volunteer project for Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church’s Good Neighbor Weekend, which took place on Saturday, September 27th . This was just one of several community projects hosted by the church over that weekend.

Church and community members gathered in the AHRL Community Room to stuff 1,000 Halloween Treat Bags for the library to hand out during the
City’s annual Hometown Halloween celebration on October 24th . The collaboration was the idea of late library staff member Paula Pickwick, who
was also a dedicated member at Granbery Church, and the president of the AHRL Friends of the Library organization. Also participating were members
of the Curtis A Smith VFW Post 1033 Auxiliary. Both young and old alike came out to show their support for the project, and for Paula. She would have
been extremely proud to see the successful turnout. The church hopes to make this an annual event in honor of Paula’s memory. Paula passed away on Wednesday, September 17th . 2025.

Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church and the AHRL staff will be hosting a service on Wednesday, October 22nd at 3:00 pm to remember and
celebrate Paula’s life. The community is invited to join in the celebration.
