MONTEREY, Va. (VR) – A Wittman Buttercup, tail number N365ED, crashed Friday morning at Hannah Field (7VA9) in Highland, County. The homebuilt airplane owned and piloted by David Lamphere took off from Culpeper Regional Airport (KCJR) at approximately 7:45 a.m. and attempted to land on runway 4 at 7VA9 at approximately 8:00 a.m.
The airplane touched down, became airborne again and did not settle after flaring. The plane ran off the end of the runway, down an embankment and struck a small concrete building. Mr. Lamphere and his wife were not injured in the crash.
The pilots recount of the event was confirmed by witness’ on the ground.
The FAA and NTSB have been contacted and will conduct an investigation.
The crash remains under investigation.
