CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (VR) – Virginia honored the memories of Lavel Davis Jr., Devin Chandler and D’Sean Perry with a record-breaking performance Saturday at Scott Stadium, defeating William & Mary 55-16 on UVA Strong Day.
The Cavaliers (2-1) piled up a program-record 700 yards of offense — 379 rushing and 321 passing — while scoring 42 first-half points, their most in a half since 2021. Harrison Waylee led the ground attack with 151 yards and three touchdowns, including a school-record 97-yard run in the third quarter. Noah Vaughn added a career-high 101 yards on eight carries before leaving with an injury.
It marked the first time in more than a decade that Virginia had two 100-yard rushers in the same game. In total, 11 Cavaliers carried the ball as UVA tied a school mark with six rushing touchdowns.
Quarterback Chandler Morris directed an efficient offense, while receivers Kam Courtney and freshman John Rogers each recorded their first career touchdowns. Kicker Will Bettridge finished with 13 points, moving to seventh on UVA’s all-time scoring list.
Defensively, Virginia held the Tribe (1-2) to 2-of-13 on third down and did not allow a sack for the third straight game. UVA did not punt, the first time since a 2019 win over William & Mary.
The Cavaliers improved to 33-6-1 in the all-time series and have now won seven straight against the Tribe. Former UVA coach Mike London is 0-5 against the Cavaliers as William & Mary’s head coach.
