COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Covington Middle School Cougar volleyball team showed resilience on Wednesday evening, bouncing back from a first-set loss to edge Maury River 2–1 at home.
The visiting Eagles claimed the opener 25-22 in a tightly played set where Covington came up just short in the late points.
The Cougars answered with authority in the second set, dominating from the service line and at the net to cruise to a 25-12 win.
That set up a deciding third frame that went down to the wire. Both teams traded points in a back-and-forth battle, but Covington held strong under pressure, pulling out a 16-14 victory to seal the match.
It was a hard-fought and well-earned win for the Cougars, who showed grit and determination in front of their home crowd. Strong serving runs from Kardyn Skidmore helped shift momentum in the second set, while Carlee Hensley came through with key points late in the decisive third to push Covington over the top.
