CLIFTON FORGE, Va. (VR) — Brother Glen Bryant, a longtime member of Clifton Forge Lodge No. 166, A.F. & A.M., and an active contributor to the Historic Masonic Theatre and community, has been honored with the 33rd Degree of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. This is one of the highest distinctions a Mason can attain, recognized worldwide as an accolade of exceptional service and commitment.
The 33° is not a degree that can be requested or applied for; it is conferred by invitation only upon Master Masons who have already attained the 32° of the Scottish Rite and who have demonstrated outstanding service to the fraternity, to their communities, or to humanity at large. Fewer than one in a thousand Scottish Rite Masons are ever selected for this honor.
This prestigious recognition places Brother Bryant among a select body of Masons whose contributions have exemplified the highest ideals of the Craft: brotherly love, relief, and truth. The honor acknowledges his decades of service, leadership, and tireless dedication not only to Freemasonry but to the civic and cultural life of the Alleghany Highlands region.
“This is a remarkable and well-deserved honor,” said Mac Beard, longtime friend, beneficiary of Brother Bryant’s mentorship and member of Clifton Forge Lodge 166, “Brother Bryant’s work has strengthened both Masonry and the community. His example shows us what it means to live our obligations as Masons every day.”
The 33rd Degree, formally known as the Inspector General Honorary, is conferred at the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction, headquartered in Washington, D.C. Its recipients are considered Ambassadors of the Rite, charged with inspiring others and continuing their efforts in service, mentorship, and leadership.
Brother Bryant continues to serve his Lodge, the Historic Masonic Theatre Preservation Foundation, and many local causes, making this recognition both a Masonic and community celebration.
