ROANOKE — The Hollins volleyball team opened its 2025 campaign with authority, sweeping Wesleyan (Ga.) and knocking off Bryn Mawr in a Saturday tri-match at home. The Green and Gold rode a strong service game and a balanced attack to secure the program’s first 2-0 start since 2017, also marking a milestone for Head Coach Dave McGee in his tenure.
Hollins opened the day with a dominant 3-0 victory over Wesleyan, winning by scores of 25-9, 25-12, and 25-3. The Green and Gold held a 33-9 advantage in kills while hitting .379 for the match. First-year outside hitter Ivy Collins led the attack with nine kills, while Alyssa Reed added six and Cassidy Henderson chipped in five.
The service line set the tone as well, where Sophia Maurer, Rachel Hull, and Reed combined for 14 of Hollins’ 19 aces. Hull paced the offense with 15 assists while Reed added 10 digs. At the net, Maurer and Norah Madrey each finished with three blocks to round out the sweep.
The second match proved more of a test. After splitting the first two sets with Bryn Mawr (25-19, 18-25), Hollins pulled away behind a steady kill advantage and relentless serving to close out the Owls 25-13 and 25-12 for a 3-1 win.
Hollins held a 42-24 edge in kills and delivered 27 aces to counter Bryn Mawr’s 14 aces and seven blocks. Reed again led the offense with 10 kills, while Maurer and Henderson added eight each. Hull and Anisia Dean combined for 27 assists, and Maurer and Collins teamed up for six of Hollins’ seven blocks. Reed highlighted the serving effort with nine aces, followed by Hull with seven and Maurer with six.
With the two victories, Hollins improves to 2-0 for the first time in eight years, giving McGee his best start at the helm.
