COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – A Covington man, initially sought on charges of indecent exposure, is now being held without bond after being arrested and charged with taking indecent liberties with children.
On August 6, at approximately 3:41 p.m., the Covington Division of Police responded to a report at the Walmart located at 313 W. Thacker Ave. concerning an individual who had exposed himself to two juveniles. Following an investigation, officers gathered evidence to support the victims’ claims and identified the suspect as Darryl L. Pelter, a registered sex offender residing in the City of Covington.
Pelter, described as a 5’10”, 200lb white male with blonde hair, blue eyes, and a long white beard, was initially wanted for two counts of Indecent Exposure. At that point, he had last been seen at the Quality Inn motel on Main Street.
Later that evening, at approximately 11:30 p.m., police announced that Pelter had been captured. Following his arrest, the charges against him were upgraded. Pelter now faces two counts of §18.2-370, taking indecent liberties with children, a Class 5 felony. If convicted, each charge could result in a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine.
Pelter is currently being held at the Alleghany Regional Jail without bond and is scheduled for an arraignment sometime this week.
