COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission (VA250) serves to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Revolutionary War and U.S. Independence –the nation’s semi quincentennial. Programs in Virginia will mark key anniversaries leading up to the pivotal date of July 4. 2026, and last through 2031, marking the decisive victory at the Battle of Yorktown. Which secured American independence.

This is an exciting time for our nation and our area. Local students from Jeter Watson Elementary, Callaghan Elementary School, Mountain View Elementary and youth from Clifton Forge colored 4th of July pictures which can be found in windows in Covington and Clifton Forge. Lollie’s in Clifton Forge has pages colored by the residents of the Woodlands Health and Rehab in Clifton Forge. Take a stroll around our beautiful downtown areas and see what our youth has accomplished while learning about our freedom and the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

As part of Kars Unlimited StreetScene this year, the VA250 Mobile Museum will be coming to Covington and will be located on the Mid City Mall behind the Discovery Center. The unit will be here August 8-10.

See you there!
