COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – At the Virginia State Convention in June, Curtis A Smith VFW Post 1033 Auxiliary received a Certificate of Achievement for being an Outstanding Auxiliary for the Hospital Program project.

This submittal was a collage of the many youth and others who contributed to the tremendous success of our Valentines for Veterans project this year. Due to the support of so many of our local youth groups and the Woodlands Health and Rehab Center, we were able to send over 1,000 valentines and coloring pages to local veterans, nursing homes and five veterans hospitals supported by the auxiliary.

Youth of Act of Kindness Awards were given to the following groups:

Jeter-Watson Elementary School
Mountain View Elementary School
Callaghan Elementary School
Boys Home
A-1 Dance Studio (owned by auxiliary member Amanda Burns)
Camerson Anderson
Colton Kershner

Kaleb’s Kreations (dancers at A-1 Dance Studio) was also recgnized for their donation of patriotic pens for the nursing home July 4 gift bags,

Other recognitions were given to The Woodlands’ Residents for all their hard work and dedication to supporting our veterans through their coloring. A special award was given to Mary O. for her ongoing coloring patriotic pictures to support these veterans.

Liza Bolen received an award from the Department of Virginia for placing third in the National 3-D art contest on the state level. Well done Liza.

Thank you to all these caring groups who support the auxiliary’s ongoing projects to “never forget” our veterans who gave so much. Thank you.
