CLIFTON FORGE, Va. (VR) – Clifton Forge Main Street never fails to provide a wonderful evening of Patriotic entertainment, vendors (the crowd favorite seemed to be the lemonade stand), and the lowering of the flag. Several vendors were hand selling great American holiday foods from hot dogs to BBQ. A large crowd was on hand for this great event this year.

The evening began with a musical program provided by The Celebration Choir. The Choir has been singing together for approximately 10 years. This group is made up of music enthusiasts from throughout the Alleghany Highlands with a wide variety of church choirs represented. Dale
Muterspaugh is the Celebration Choirs Director. Soloist during the July 3rd patriotic program were David Crosier and Alan Dale Craft. Alan also was the narrator. A duet featured Laura Snead and Robin Powell.

During the “Armed Forces Medley” persons who had served or are serving in the various branches of our military were asked to stand and be recognized. After the American Flag was retired for the evening “The National Anthem” was sung. Some of the other songs in the program included “God Bless America”, “You’re A Grand Old Flag” “America the Beautiful” and “God Bless the USA”.

Doesn’t get any more patriotic than that. The Celebration Choir was wonderful as they are always.

Thank you for entertaining us at this special annual event.

The retiring of the American flag and the folding of the American flag were conducted by the Clifton Forge Police Department.

Taps were played by Bill Atherhlolt.

The Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce had a presence as they kicked off their VA250 program for our area and the coming of the VA250 Mobile Museum during the Kars Unlimited 47th annual Streetscene on August the 9th in Covington. Explore Virginia’s story in this museum on
wheels. VA250 is the Virginian American Revolution 250 Commission, which is commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and the nation’s founding. The children who were there had a great time getting patriotic tattoos from Makayla Nobles.

God Bless America and the freedoms we have in the United States to have these annual celebrations.
