CLIFTON FORGE, Va. (VR) – Bill and Mott Atherholt were honored for their volunteer work in Clifton Forge and the impact they have had on the community.
Chuck Unroe’s presentation in its entirety: “Clifton Forge is blessed to have an extraordinarily strong, committed, and hard-working group of volunteers, and tonight we want to take a few minutes to recognize and thank the two of them. It is not very often that you get to meet someone, let alone two people, whose passion in life is to tirelessly work to make things better for everyone else. That is exactly what Bill and Mott Atherholt have been doing for more than 20 years. For more than 20 years they have been a huge part of the backbone of our volunteer group, working not only to produce the wonderful events that we all enjoy every year, but also to make Clifton Forge a better, happier and more prosperous place to work, live and play with a very promising and long future. Thank you and I also want to thank their family for sharing them with us. We have a couple tokens of appreciation for you tonight which will be presented by Marie Saxton, Director of Planning and Community Development, Mayor Jeff Irvine and me”.
Marie Saxton presented the Atherholts with a beautiful arrangement of flowers and a very nice gift basket. Mayor Jeff Irvine presented the Atherholts with the first ever key to the Town of Clifton Forge and Chuck Unroe presented them with a special banner which is part of a new program implemented in Clifton Forge. The banner will be hung on Century Trail. Stroll the scenic trail and check it out. It is the first banner of the Champions of Clifton Forge that you will see over the coming years.
Chuck Unroe closed with these words: “While our words and gifts can never truly show what very deep respect, gratitude and appreciation that we have for you and what you have done for our community, we are grateful to you for your commitment to us and that you have chosen to make Clifton Forge your town. God Bless You and God Bless America.”
Mott Atherholt’s words were simple ones: “Volunteer. Volunteer, Volunteer. That’s it”
Bill Atherholt’s comment on the honor bestowed on him and Mott: “I was totally surprised by the tribute to Mott and me and felt very appreciated by the speech by Chuck Unroe and comments by others participating in the event. Yes…..volunteering has great rewards”.
Hats off to the Bill and Mott Atherholt. They are two wonderful giving people, not just in Clifton Forge, but throughout the Alleghany Highlands.
