City of Covington Public Notice

Alleghany County Transfer Station usage for City Residents

Effective August 1, 2025

The City of Covington would like to make residents aware that effective Friday, August 1, 2025, if you personally take refuse to the Alleghany
County Transfer Station, you will be responsible for any and all fees.

Residential Charges @ Island Ford Transfer Station as of August 1, 2025
0 – 1/4 ton = $ 25.18
1/4 ton – 1/2 ton = $ 50.36
1/2 ton – 3/4 ton = $ 75.53
3/4 ton – 1 ton = $ 100.71
For car tires, the charge will be $2.00 each.
For truck tires, the charge will be $4.00 each.
For appliances, the charge will be $10.00 each.

City residents will need to supply the transfer station with their current address for billing purposes.

The City of Covington will bill city residents for these services and payment can be made to the city via mail or at the City’s Treasurer’s Office.

The City of Covington’s refuse trucks will still pick up your refuse on your normal day.
