Charles Lorenzo Gibson
Charles Lorenzo Gibson, age 84 of 146 Head of the James, Eagle Rock, Virginia died on Monday, June 23, 2025 in Staunton, Virginia.
Charles was born on February 28, 1941 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Lorenzo Clyde Gibson and Mary Lucille Eades Gibson. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Clifton Forge where he sang in the choir, was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class, was a former trustee of the church, and served on the Administrative Board. Charles retired from Hercules, Covington as a research and development employee for over 38 years. He enjoyed farming and watching his grandchildren play baseball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Van Pelt Gibson; two brothers, Clyde Gibson and Bobby Gibson; and a sister, Mary Ann Kuznear.
He is survived by a son, Charles Jeffrey Gibson and wife Robin, of Rich Patch, Covington; two daughters, Helen Marie O’Gorman and husband Patrick, of Eagle Rock and Angela Lynn Thorne, of Staunton; nine grandchildren, Sharon Gibson, Karen Gibson, Tyler Gibson, Dustin Gibson, Charles Grant Linthicum, Denver Linthicum, Skylar Linthicum, Drake Thorne, and Katie Thorne; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, including a special nephew that was raised in the Gibson household, Rick Kuznear, of Hampstead, Maryland.
In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. The family will visit with friends on Friday, June 27, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
The family suggests memorial tribute take the form of contribution to the A.C.G Hospice of Staunton and the Food Pantry in Clifton Forge.
