It was a busy and rewarding District work period back home in the Sixth District. I had the chance to meet with constituents, honor those serving our communities, and tour several local facilities that are making a real difference. Fighting fraud, waste, and abuse in Washington remains a top priority. That is why I am advancing reforms to codify savings and consolidate duplicative federal offices to ensure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely. Thanks to commonsense policies, families are finally seeing relief and renewed confidence in the economy. As I return to Washington, I will continue fighting for policies that put Virginia’s Sixth District first and restore fiscal accountability in Congress.
Fighting Wasteful Spending and Delivering Results for Taxpayers
Since coming to Congress, I have made it a top priority to rein in Washington’s out-of-control spending. The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has done important work exposing waste, fraud, and abuse across the federal government. Their findings confirm what many of us already knew: too much of your hard-earned money is being wasted on programs that do not serve the American people.
When DOGE was created, I shared with its leadership a copy of the Republican Study Committee’s Balanced Budget, which I helped to write back in 2024. That budget became the foundation for many of DOGE’s key reforms. This month, I submitted more than 150 amendments to codify those savings into law through the appropriations process. As President Trump prepares to send his rescission package to the House, I will be working with my colleagues to ensure these spending reductions remain in place. His 2026 budget restores fiscal responsibility and puts American taxpayers first.
House Republicans are ready to act on DOGE’s recommendations. We are committed to cutting wasteful spending, shrinking the size of the federal government, and returning power to the people where it belongs.
Confidence in the Economy is Growing
In May, consumer confidence rose by 12.3 points, a clear sign that commonsense conservative, pro-growth policies are taking hold. From Main Street in Roanoke to communities across the Sixth District, families, workers, and small businesses are feeling more optimistic about their financial future.
With Republican leadership in Washington, we are cutting taxes, reducing burdensome regulations, and unlocking America’s energy potential. When government steps back and allows the private sector to lead, businesses grow, wages rise, and families keep more of what they earn.
This rise in consumer confidence is more than a number. It reflects renewed trust in the direction of our economy and is proof that the policies House Republicans are advancing are delivering real results for the American people.
Cutting Red Tape at the State Department
As a member of the House Judiciary Committee and a strong advocate for limited government, I have long pushed for reforms that rein in the federal bureaucracy. The State Department is one of the most bloated agencies in Washington. Over the last 25 years, it has tripled in size, often losing sight of its core mission to advance American interests on the world stage.
That is why I support Secretary Marco Rubio’s plan to consolidate more than 300 domestic offices, reducing internal operations by 45 percent. I have continued to advocate for legislation that cuts waste and ensures taxpayer dollars are spent efficiently including within our foreign affairs agencies.
House Republicans are committed to streamlining government, and I will continue working with my colleagues to hold federal agencies accountable and deliver smarter, leaner operations. Real diplomacy happens in the field, not in layers of bureaucracy in Washington. These reforms are an important step toward ensuring our government works for the people, not itself.
