COVINGTON, Va. (VR) — Kinlee Huffman and Keegan Morris will soon take center stage as the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Alleghany High School Class of 2025.
Huffman, the valedictorian, plans to pursue a degree in Health Science at James Madison University this fall. Morris, the salutatorian, intends to attend Virginia Tech but may begin his studies at Radford University. The graduation ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 30, at the Mountain Gateway Community College Convocation Center, starting at 6:30 p.m.
Both students earned the highest academic honors through years of dedication and hard work, with Huffman securing the top spot in cumulative GPA and Morris closely following as salutatorian. This year, they were also recognized with numerous scholarships, reflecting their outstanding achievements both inside and outside the classroom.
Reflecting on her achievement, Huffman said, “Being named valedictorian is more than just a title to me—it’s a reflection of every challenge I’ve faced, every moment I wanted to give up but didn’t, and all the love and support from my family, teachers, and friends. It’s proof that hard work and heart can take you further than you ever imagined. I’m incredibly grateful for this honor and for the journey that brought me here.”
Alongside her high school diploma, Huffman earned an associate degree from Mountain Gateway Community College, demonstrating her commitment to academic excellence. She follows in the footsteps of her older sister, Kassie Huffman, the Class of 2022 valedictorian who is now a student at the University of Virginia.
Kinlee credits much of her success to her family’s encouragement, especially her parents, Jamie Huffman and Lynette Huffman, both educators with Alleghany Highlands Public Schools. “My family, especially my parents, have had the biggest impact by always encouraging me,” she shared. “Alleghany High helped me grow as a person and taught me how to work hard and stay responsible.”
Morris, son of Tommy and Amanda Morris, has also distinguished himself with academic achievement and leadership. Known for his thoughtful and steady approach, he’s proud of his personal growth and is excited about continuing his education in the fields of science and technology.
Both Huffman and Morris are active members of the Beta Club and National Honor Society, where they have demonstrated leadership through community service and academic excellence. Their participation in college-level coursework at the Jackson River Governor’s School at Mountain Gateway Community College has further prepared them for the challenges of higher education.
As Alleghany Highlands Public Schools celebrates the accomplishments of its graduating seniors, Huffman and Morris exemplify the perseverance, focus, and strong support systems that help students thrive.
