COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Covington Middle School Lady Cougars softball team closed out an impressive season on Tuesday with a hard-fought game against CAMS. Despite a tough loss 1-2 in their final outing, the girls have much to be proud of after finishing the season with a strong 5-1 record.

After nearly three weeks without a game, the Lady Cougars showed determination and grit. Lydia Herstine pitched an outstanding game, striking out 10 batters while allowing only 4 hits and 3 walks. She was backed by a solid defense that made some big plays in the field to keep the game close.

Offensively, the Cougars collected five hits, with contributions from Mariah Skidmore, Alexis Craft, Chessie Wolfe, Elizabeth Bazzera, and Lydia Herstine. Each player stepped up at the plate to help power the team in their final matchup.

Though the season didn’t end with a win, the Lady Cougars have every reason to hold their heads high. With a season full of effort, teamwork, and heart, this team proved they were a force to be reckoned with on the diamond.

Congratulations to the Covington Middle School Lady Cougars on a great season!
