COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – In recognition of Alcohol Awareness Month in April, Alleghany Highlands Community Services proudly spotlighted the growing impact of Recovery Court through a powerful collaboration with the City of Covington—and celebrated an exciting milestone: the official inclusion of Bath County into the Recovery Court program this April.

Throughout the month, Recovery Court participants not only raised awareness about the dangers of alcohol misuse but also gave back to their community through hands-on service projects. Working alongside the City of Covington Public Works Department, participants engaged in activities such as litter cleanup, demonstrating the power of purpose-driven recovery and the importance of second chances.

Recovery Court offers a life-changing opportunity for individuals struggling with addiction by providing a structured, supportive environment that includes counseling, supervision, and treatment. The program empowers participants to overcome substance use disorders, rebuild their lives, and reintegrate into the community with renewed hope and accountability.

The recent expansion into Bath County marks a significant and exciting step forward for the program. This development allows more individuals in the region to access recovery resources and benefit from the program’s proven approach. The partnership between Alleghany Highlands Community Services, Bath County officials, and local stakeholders is expected to have a meaningful impact on public health and safety across the region.

“This month, we not only honored Alcohol Awareness Month but also celebrated the incredible progress and expansion of our Recovery Court program,” said Ingrid Barber, Executive Director of Alleghany Highlands Community Services. “Welcoming Bath County into this initiative is a tremendous milestone. It represents a growing regional commitment to support recovery, promote community healing, and transform lives. These partnerships—between our participants and local governments—show what’s possible when we come together with a shared purpose.”

As communities across the Commonwealth work to address the challenges of alcohol misuse and addiction, programs like Recovery Court exemplify the power of collaboration and compassion. Through expanded partnerships and continued investment in recovery-focused initiatives, Alleghany Highlands Community Services is helping to build safer, healthier futures—one individual and one community at a time.
