Clara Grace Simmons Bennett
Clara Grace Simmons Bennett, age 90, of Covington, Virginia passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Clara was born in West Virginia on July 26, 1934 to the late Howard Carl Simmons and the late Margaret Luevena Cook Simmons. Clara was a member of Calvary Christian Church in Covington and had a very deep faith. She loved supporting the COPE Food Bank in Covington. She was an avid lover of alligators and Dr. Seuss, especially the Grinch. Clara loved her flowers, the birds, squirrels, and her fruit trees. She loved spending time with her family visiting, making homemade bread for many years, and making apple butter. She had many friends who loved her dearly.
Clara, in addition to her parents, was preceded in death by her husband, Marion “Dick” Bennett; her son, Kolin Howard Bennett; her sisters, Margaret Simmons Neville and Hilda Rose Simmons Hilton; and her brothers, Carlis Simmons and Willis Simmons.
Clara is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Gary Waddell of Covington; daughter and son-in-law, Katra and Mike Fife of Lewisburg, WV; daughter, Kelly Croy of Ronceverte, WV; and a son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Gouldar “Julie” Bennett of Covington. She is also survived by several grandchildren: Stephanie and Jason Hepler of Covington, Chad and Wendy Fife of Hurricane, WV; Alyce and David McAllister of Covington; Casey Guet of South Carolina; Lucas and Ashley Guet of Ronceverte, WV; Maggie Rose Bennett of Salt Lake City, UT; Grace and Desmond Jones of Salem, VA; and Amanda Fife of Long Island, NY. Clara was also blessed with many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Abiding by Clara’s wishes, she will be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Calvary Christian Church, Covington with Reverend Mike Warren officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of service.
