Evelyn Broughman Peery
Mollie Evelyn Broughman Peery, age 94, of Clifton Forge, Virginia was ushered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at her residence. She told her hospice nurse, Autumn, when I leave here, do not say “I died”. Autumn asked “what would you like me to say?” and her response was, “I’m skipping with Jesus”.
She was born June 27, 1930, in Union City, New Jersey to the late John Watson Broughman and Flora O’Conner Broughman. Evelyn was a homemaker throughout her life and was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Clifton Forge. She was a Sunday school teacher, and a member of The Auxiliary of The Gideons International. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, her flowers and upholstering.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lewis Peery; and a brother, Henry Broughman.
She is survived by two daughters, Doris P. Woodie and husband, Johnny of Lynchburg, Karen P. Deisher and husband, John of Vinton; two sons, Robert Steven Peery and wife, Patricia of Vesuvius, Jeffrey A. Peery and wife, Debra of Columbia, TN; a sister, Mary Johnson and husband, Ralph of Iron Gate; two brothers, Thomas Broughman and wife, Mary Lou, Johnny Broughman and wife, Carolyn; eight grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held in Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, Clifton Forge with Pastor Brandon Nicely officiating. Internment will immediately follow. There is no formal visitation, but friends may call anytime at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
