ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany girls’ and boys’ track teams put on a strong performance at the Invitational held at Northside on Saturday, with both squads showcasing impressive talent and determination. The Lady Cougars finished in third place overall with 61 points, while the Cougar boys secured a respectable fourth-place finish with a total of 64 points.

The girls’ team dominated the 4×800 relay event, finishing with a commanding time of 10:17.16 to take home first place. The duo of Barron and Hensley put on a thrilling display in the 3200-meter run, with Barron claiming first place and Hensley following closely behind in second. The 4×100 team broke school record and qualified for the state meet.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Heck rounded out a solid performance with a fifth-place finish, recording a time of 58.30. The girls’ team also performed well in the 4×100 relay, where the quartet of Heighter, Robinson, Ransom, Smith, and Hipes clocked a time of 51.30 to secure second place.

On the boys’ side, the team made a strong start with a second-place finish in the 4×100 relay. The team, consisting of Jordan, White, Frye, and Christian, posted a time of 44.36. The Cougars’ momentum continued throughout the meet as Miles Christian raced to first place in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 52.23.

In the 1600-meter run, Maddox Wickline displayed incredible endurance, finishing second with an impressive time of 4:38.51. The boys’ high jump also saw a notable performance, with Xzavier Hayslett claiming third place with a jump of 5-08.00.
