ELLISTON, Va. (VR) – In an impressive display of offensive firepower and defensive execution, Bath County defeated Eastern Montgomery 12-2 on Thursday, thanks in large part to a dominant seven-run fourth inning.
The game got off to a strong start for Eastern Montgomery, who managed to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Coltin Conner’s groundout and Austin Tate’s single to left field each brought in a run, giving the Mustangs the early advantage.

However, Bath County responded swiftly. In the bottom of the second, Eastern Montgomery’s defense faltered with an error, allowing Bath County to tie the game at 2-2. This error proved to be a pivotal moment, as it shifted momentum firmly in Bath’s favor.
The game-changing fourth inning saw Bath County take control in a big way. The team exploded for seven runs on just three hits, aided by another costly Eastern Montgomery error. The highlight of the inning was a two-run error that allowed Bath County to seize a 9-2 lead, and they never looked back.

Lowry, who earned the win for Bath County, was solid on the mound. He went five innings, giving up six hits and two runs, while striking out three and walking three. His performance kept Eastern Montgomery at bay throughout the contest.

On the other side, Caleb Jones took the loss for Eastern Montgomery. The Mustangs’ starter struggled, giving up nine runs (three earned) on three hits in just three and two-thirds innings. He did manage to strike out eight batters but also walked three.
At the plate, Eastern Montgomery’s offense was led by Jones, who went 2-for-2, and Conner and Tate, who each drove in a run. Despite their efforts, the Mustangs were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.

For Bath County, the middle of the lineup was the key to the win. Ingram drove in two runs, going 2-for-4 on the day, and played a significant role in keeping the offense rolling. Bath County’s defense also made a statement, turning two double plays to help maintain control of the game.
