Virginia State Police investigating fatal Botetourt County crash

BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va .(VR) – Virginia State Police is investigating a single-vehicle crash
which resulted in three fatalities. The crash occurred Monday, (Mar 31) at 6:22 p.m. in the
7500 block of Roanoke Road in Botetourt County.

A 2016 Jeep Wrangler was traveling south on Route 220, when the vehicle ran off the left side
of the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver was identified as James Roosevelt Winston, Jr., 61, of North Chesterfield, Va. Mr.
Winston was wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene.

The passengers, William Julian Cosby, 50, Corey Allen Byrd, 34, both of Roanoke, Va., were
not wearing their seatbelts and died at the scene.

Speed is believed to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
