STUARTS DRAFT, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany High School boys tennis team continued their strong start to the season with a commanding performance against Stuarts Draft on March 19th. The Cougars showcased their depth and talent, sweeping all three doubles matches and winning five out of six singles contests. In doubles action, the Alleghany pairs were unstoppable, with each duo securing decisive 8-0 victories. The top team of Chase Depriest and Gavin Via set the tone, followed by equally impressive performances from Eli and Bubby Entsminger, as well as Bryce Crawford and Ayven Warren.

The singles matches saw continued dominance from Alleghany’s top players. Chase Depriest defeated Moran 8-2, while Eli Entsminger matched that score against Mattox. Gavin Via delivered a flawless 8-0 win over Thomas. The lower seeds also had an opportunity to shine, with Spencer Tallman and Ben Phillips securing valuable wins. Tallman edged out Cash in a competitive 8-6 match, while Phillips defeated Huffman 8-4. Stuarts Draft’s lone victory came from Young, who bested Alleghany’s Colten Jones 8-4.
Coach Seth Davis expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “It was good to get some of our reserves in singles and get them some seeded match experience. They keep working hard.”
The victory improves Alleghany’s record to 2-0 for the season, demonstrating their potential as a formidable force in high school tennis. The Cougars will look to continue their winning streak in their next match, a home rematch against Stuarts Draft on Wednesday, March 26th.
