COVINGTON, Va, (VR) – In a tough scrimmage against a talented Riverheads, Coach Ryan Kessinger remains optimistic about his team’s preparation moving forward. Despite a 10-3 loss, Kessinger noted several positive aspects of the game, particularly at the plate and on the bases.
“I thought we did some things well in this scrimmage. We hit the ball hard with consistency and did some good things on the bases,” Kessinger said. “We have to continue to improve defensively, and we have to cut down the walks to give ourselves a better chance at having scoreless innings. Both scrimmages we had were against talented opponents, which in return have given us good preparation going into the season.”
On the offensive side, there were several key performances. Kai Rowland provided a hit and crossed the plate for a run, while Trey Cook contributed a hit, an RBI, and a run. Tyler Jackson had a standout moment with a triple, adding another run to the scoreboard. Both Carson Brown and Tucker Phillips collected hits in the game, with Brown also swiping a base. Sarge Persinger joined in on the stolen base action, stealing a base and contributing to the team’s overall aggressive base-running.
While the team faces some areas to improve, including defense and reducing walks, Kessinger’s outlook remains positive as the team continues to fine-tune its game ahead of the season. With a mix of strong performances at the plate and in the field, the team is building the necessary momentum to compete in the upcoming season.
