LOW MOOR Va, (VR) – The Cougar Varsity softball team took to the field for another preseason scrimmage, falling to their opponents 8-4 but showcasing both their strengths and areas for improvement as they gear up for the regular season. Despite the loss, the scrimmage provided valuable insights for the coaching staff. In a display of pitching depth, the team rotated through their top three hurlers, with Addyson Neff, Tyra Rose, and Emma Skidmore each taking the mound for two solid innings. All three pitchers demonstrated good form and control, giving the coaching staff confidence in their rotation.
Offensively, the Lady Cougars showed flashes of potential, managing to put up 4 runs against their opponents. Hits were scattered throughout the lineup. However, the team struggled to capitalize on all their opportunities, leaving too many runners stranded on base. This will likely be a focal point for improvement as they fine-tune their offensive strategy to close the scoring gap in future games.
Defensively, the squad made several impressive plays both in the infield and outfield, showcasing their athleticism and instincts. However, the 8 runs conceded indicate that work remains to be done on consistency, particularly when it comes to routine plays against formidable opponents like LB.
Despite the 8-4 loss, Head Coach Keith Morris remains optimistic about the team’s prospects. “I still have total confidence in this team,” Morris stated. “We get a few things shored up, we will be just fine.”
As the regular season approaches, the Lady Cougars will look to build on their strengths while addressing the areas that need refinement. With a solid pitching rotation and flashes of defensive brilliance, the team appears poised for success once they iron out the kinks in their offensive production and overall consistency.
