RONCEVERTE W.Va. (VR) – A deceased man was discovered in the Greenbrier River in Ronceverte on Wednesday, March 12. The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office released the following information:
“On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at approximately 1800 hours (6 p.m.) members of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the report of a deceased person in the Greenbrier River about a quarter of a mile South of where Second Creek spills into the river. Deputies were able to enter the river to confirm that the male was deceased. Deputies, along with Ronceverte Volunteer Fire Department members, were able to recover the victim from the river. The victim was then identified as Shawn Carter, a 43-year-old male from the Union area of Monroe County. Members of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Team processed the area, and a vehicle belonging to the victim was found nearby. At this time no foul play is suspected but it is still an ongoing investigation. Sgt M. T. Doss of the Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigator.”
