ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va (VR) – Boiling Springs Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, located in Alleghany County, VA, has lost a 49-year veteran firefighter in the line of duty. Steve A Weikle age 70, responded with the Boiling Springs Department to a structure collapse on February 13, 2025. At that incident, the structure collapsed trapping farm animals inside the structure. No firefighters were injured while removing the animals. However, a short time later, Weikle, who had been actively participating in that call, was found in cardiac arrest outside of his home. Since the medical emergency happened within 24 hours of running a call, The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation considers that a line of duty death.

Weikle will be laid to rest with full fire department honors. Visitation for the Weikle family will be Monday, February 17, 2025, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Loving Funeral Home located at 350 North Maple Avenue, Covington, VA.
