COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Over the past few days the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous complaints of citizens being contacted by person’s posing to be representatives from Publishers Clearinghouse, Insurance companies, and other businesses. These companies are providing you with a code and a phone number to call and claim your prize. Please DO NOT call them or give out any information to anyone over the phone.

You work way too hard to give these creeps your money.

These people prey on our elderly population, and they are very slick talkers. Just hang up the phone when they call you.

REMEMBER IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, THEN IT PROBABLY IS.

If you or anyone you know has been scammed, please contact the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office at 540-965-1770.
