LOW MOOR, Va. (VR) — Are you ready for a little winter fun?
The Alleghany Highlands YMCA, in conjunction with the Alleghany Highlands Healthy Youth Coalition, is hosting a
Winter Bash on Saturday, January 25, from 1-5 p.m. This event is free to the public.
Activities will include swimming, games, face painting, a chili cook-off, the Little Critters Petting Zoo and other

healthcare partners.
“Healthy youth are the foundation of a thriving community,” said Dr. Sandra McHenry, Alleghany Highlands
YMCA Healthy Highlands Program leader. “We’re excited to host an event where families can come together,
have fun and explore the valuable resources our community has to offer.”

Founded in March 2017 following the analysis of the Alleghany County Community Readiness Assessment and
the Alleghany County/Covington City Youth Risk Behavior Survey results, the Alleghany Highlands Healthy Youth
Coalition is supported by grant funding from the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental
Services.
“The Alleghany Highlands Healthy Youth Coalition is really looking forward to this opportunity to get the
community together,” said Maddie Ayers, B.S., Alleghany Highlands Community Services prevention specialist.
“This time of year, community events can be limited, but the YMCA is providing the perfect space for everyone
to have a wonderful time while still staying warm. Our coalition will be setting up with resources for parents and
goodies for the kids.”
A component of Alleghany Highlands Community Services, the coalition is composed of various members of the
community with a common interest in the health of all Alleghany Highlands youth. Its mission is to heighten
awareness and educate the community in promoting healthy choices among youth. For more information, email healthyyouthcoalition@gmail.com or call (540) 965-2100.
