COVINGTON, Va. (VR) - The Covington Lumberjacks and Olde Town Covington have joined forces with the Christmas Mother and Salvation Army for a teddy bear drive. Teddy Bear Donations to Be Collected at Saturday’s Game

COVINGTON, Va. (VR) — The Covington VA250 Celebration opened Thursday evening at the Jackson River Sports Complex. Crowds began lining up before gates opened at 6 p.m. and quickly filled the midway. Rides provided by Coles Amusements drew steady lines throughout the evening, while food vendors served a variety of fair favorites.
The celebration continues Friday and Saturday. Gates open at 6 p.m. each day and admission is free. Ride tickets are available for purchase on site. The event concludes Saturday night with a fireworks show. Photo: Christopher Mentz, VR

Patricia Grace Kennon Bird Parker

Patricia Grace Kennon Bird Parker, age 85, of 1518 South Howard Avenue, Covington, Virginia died on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at the Alleghany Health and Rehabilitation, Clifton Forge.

Patricia was born on May 19, 1939 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Brown Wesley Kennon and Ella Mae Middleton Kennon.  She was a Radiology Technician for Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and a member of Fletcher United Methodist Church in Callaghan. 

In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her first husband, William Arthur Bird, Sr., her second husband, Lloyd Lewis Parker, and a daughter, Krista Bird Chaudoin.

She is survived by three sons, Kenneth W. Bird of Covington, Ben Bird of Clifton Forge, and William Arthur “Bo” Bird, Jr. and wife Anita of Clifton Forge; a brother-in-law, George Bird and wife Joyce of  Verona; three grandchildren, Julia Bird, Logan Chaudoin, and Tristin Bird; a number of nieces and nephews; and a best friend, Carroll Rapp.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated.  A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Mr. Chris Fisher officiating.  The family will visit with friends on Friday afternoon, January 10th, from 2:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral home.
