Mrs. Constance Mae Bartley Bowles, age 67, of 301 E. Phillip Street, died Friday, March 5, 2010 at Alleghany Regional Hospital after a long and courageous battle with COPD.

She was born November 20, 1942 in St. Mary County, Maryland, the daughter of the late Elmer Bartley and Elaine Stover Bartley Carpenter. A member of this community since 1970, she was employed with the Alleghany County Recreation Department as a Recreation Supervisor where she loved working with the children the most. She retired in 2002 after twenty-five years of service. An avid Washington Redskins fan, Connie enjoyed crocheting, fishing, working jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo and canasta, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her wonderful children, grandson and her great grandchildren. Mrs. Bowles was a member of Good News Foursquare Church.

Mrs. Bowles is survived by two sons, William A. Bowles and fiancée, Rhonda Phillips of Roanoke, Christopher T. Bowles and wife, Corey of Covington; a daughter, Debra B. Cartwright and husband, Philip of Covington; one grandson who was reared in the home, Dustin Bowles; three great grandchildren, Kaiya Bowles, Keira Bowles, Ethan Bowles and their mother, Stacy Bowles; four sisters, Faye Bartley Craft of Petersburg, Peggy Bartley Tolley of Covington, Alma Bartley Wilder and husband, William of Iowa, Mary Bartley Drumheller and husband, Harold, of Hopewell; a special sister-in-law, Sandy Bowles and her husband, Earl; several special nieces and nephews; and her four-footed daughter, Booger.

In addition to her parents, Elmer Bartley and Elaine Stover Bartley Carpenter, Mrs. Bowles was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Odessa in 1959.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Good News Foursquare Church with the Rev. Steve Noel officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bill Gilliland. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Eric Simpson, Morty Mauck, Patrick Morgan, Rob Lane, Kenny Lane, Tony Smith, John McCarthy, and Brian McNanley.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Chris and Corey Bowles, 359 E. Fudge Street, Covington.
