Knights Crossing XC Invitational; Lowman runner-up

SALEM – The Green Hill Park in Salem has been kind to Kiera Lowman as the Alleghany junior has won a pair of state championships at the location.

 

While it wasn’t a state title, the Green Hill Park was once again kind to Lowman as she had the second fastest time at the Knights Crossing Cross Country Invitational 5k with a time of 17:51.2.

 

With three divisions (white, black, and red) Lowman helped guide the Cougars to an 11th place finish out of 38 schools that participated in the red division. Lowman, individually was second to Cardinal Gibbons (North Carolina) senior Hannah Rae Shaffer by less than a second as she crossed the finish line at 17:50.6. Shaffer is a University of NC commit. 

 

Faith Barron was the only other Cougar to make it in the top-50 with a 43rd place finish after a time of 20:02.70. There was a total of 331 girls in the red division. 

 

The Alleghany girls team that participated in the red division placed 13th out of 14 schools.

 

Meanwhile the boys team that participated in the black division finished in 8th place out of 27 schools in the division. 

 

The Cougars had three that finished in the top-50, which was a division the featured 220 total boys runners. Maddox Wickline nearly cracked the top-10 with a 12th place finish after a time of 17:27.8. Evan Bishop finish 40th following a 18:25.0, and Nick Powell finished 49th with a time of 18:34.6.

 

Alleghany did not field a full team in the white division, however, Calvin Craft placed 224 with a time of 23:28.6, and Ryan Tucker finished 261 after a time of 24:48.9. In the white division race there was 307 total runners and 22 schools.

 

The event itself featured well over 1,000 high school runners. 

 

Alleghany’s next race will be one their hosting this Saturday the Alleghany XC Invitational at the Jackson River Sports Complex.
