FLOYD – It may have not been their best team score in three events so far this season, however Alleghany placed third with a team score of 366 at the Three Rivers District Invitational at the Great Oaks Country Club in Floyd County on Monday.
Their third place finish on Monday was the highest Alleghany as a team has finished this year. In the TRD opener over a week ago the Cougars tied for third place with Glenvar. This time third place belonged to only them and continued to put the Cougars in the right direction.
For the second time this season Haden Spinks was the leader for Alleghany after shooting an 83 at the Great Oaks Country Club. Meanwhile Kai Rowland shot a 90, Bubby Entsminger carded a 96, and Landon Arritt rounded out the card with a 97.
The hosts of the event Floyd County continued to dominate the green after picking up their third win of the season after shooting a team best 303 for the afternoon. The Buffaloes also once again had the most dominant individual performances with a tie of 74 (2-over-par) between Jonathan Whitlow and Peyton Mason. It was Mason’s third medalist honors this season.
Glenvar put together their best event of the season by finishing in second place for the event with a score of 343. It was also Carroll County’s best team finish as they placed tied for fourth with Radford as they each shot a 373. It was the Bobcats worst finish to an event so far in this young golf season.
Alleghany will be back on the green on Thursday where they will compete in the TRD Invitational at the Botetourt Golf and Swim Club in Troutville.
