CLIFTON FORGE–Special Theatrical Artists Revue & Showcase (STARS) will perform “Summertime Variety Show,” a free show for the public, at The Historic Masonic Theatre on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 3 p.m.
The Appalfolks of America production will be the third STARS’ show of the year. Paula Crance and Sonya Romanello, co-directors, both expressed their appreciation of the Covington City Council, the Town of Clifton Forge, and the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors for supporting STARS to enable the troupe of 30 performers who face physical disabilities and/or intellectual challenges to perform once again in the theatre where STARS made its debut in 1996.
Crance said, “We really want to thank the local governments for their financial support of STARS that has enabled us to return to the theatre.”
Chris Fisher will return to emcee the show that will feature more than 20 of the troupe’s 30 performers, and donations made at the show will
support STARS.
M. Ray Allen, president and founder of Appalfolks of America, remarked, “I want to thank Smurfit WestRock, Good News Church on Main, the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism, and the government officials of Covington, Alleghany County, and Clifton Forge
for enabling STARS to return to the theatre after performing for the past few years at Good News Church on Main.”
STARS will also perform a Christmas show at The Historic Masonic Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 8. that will be financially made possible by the governing bodies financial support.
Allen concluded, “STARS has grown from a troupe of 10 to 30, and Appalfolks produced a documentary film in 2006 titled “STARS” that won a Bronze Telly Award.”
