PENOBSCOT, Maine (AP) – Three Maine men with cerebral palsy are suing the state for allegedly violating the Americans With Disabilities Act for forcing them to live in nursing homes that they say are unsuitable for them.
Thirty-three-year-old Eric Reeves, 28-year-old Adam Fletcher and 26-year-old Jake Van Meter filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Bangor on Dec. 18. The men live in nursing homes in Penobscot and Ellsworth, Maine, and in Braintree, Mass.
According to the Bangor Daily News, the complaint says the men don’t receive adequate training or support services in the nursing homes, as required by law. The men want the state to provide support for them in a community housing setting.
Attorney General Janet Mills said she is reviewing the case.
