It was a year ago, that Bishop Isaiah Freeman, III, and his wife, Lady Jean began renovating an old church which would very soon become a transplanted New Dimensions Christian Fellowship, from New Castle County, DE to Covington.
The Freemans became interested in the area while he was being considered as a pastoral candidate for an area church. He was not selected for that church but “was invited back (to the area) by the late Betty Graves and Deborah and Gregory Rice, who became his partners and
founding members in NDCF Covington. “This is how it started, just us, and Lady Jean,” said Freeman.
After finding an empty church, through on-line ads, “the Lord helped us make a little deal with the people and we were able to secure this building,” said Freeman of his non-denomination Christian Fellowship. After much renovation of the old church building, NDCF opened its doors
in October of 2023, to “focus on the unchurched and the youth.”
Though “a Baptist minister, this particular fellowship has people that come from different denominations,” added Freeman. He further explained that this Christian fellowship has “taken down the denominational walls.” “Our doctrine is the bible, with part of our mission being bringing the community together,” said Freeman. He cites working with Covington’s 2024 Juneteenth Committee, to present a Vacation Bible School and Choir as well as a United Men for Christ Chorus, under his direction, as one example. “With seven churches working together, we proved that it worked, and I’d like to see more of that, as we transition from being a church to the kingdom of God,” added Freeman.
Freeman, a certified K-12 music teacher, is working, in conjunction with other churches, to “bring the kids together again with a program called,” the Revolution” on Aug. 23rd at 7:00pm.
Though, this event will be held shortly after the start of the school year, it will be treated as a back-to-school event, with giveaways.
“My wife and I are happy to be here in the community and to become part of the community because that is very important. We don’t want to stand aloof; we are here to serve and help people as much as we are able to and let God get glory because that’s what it’s all about,” said
Freeman. “We’ve grown slowly, from the original four to five that I talked about to having about 20 in our fellowship on a regular basis,” he added in conclusion.
The Freemans are happily married and have a total of ten children and 11 grandchildren. They are looking forward to celebrating NDCF’s one year anniversary in Oct. Rev. William Hickman, III pastor, Concerned Christian Baptist Church, Covington, dedicated NDCF on Oct. 8, 2023.
NDCF’s worship services are at 10:30am on Sunday mornings, with live streamed prayer meeting and bible study, called Pause, Praise, and Prayer on Wednesdays at 6:30pm. NDCF is located at 201 E.
