Two persons were arrested Sunday following an early-morning altercation on East Beech Street.

Covington Police Chief J.B. Broughman said Antonio Smith, 23, of Covington, was charged with brandishing a firearm, discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The second person, a juvenile from the Low Moor area, was charged with obstruction justice.

Police were called to the 300 block of East Beech Street at 12:48 a.m. Sunday for a fight. Responding officers were also notified that a shot had been fired.

The investigation is being led by Covington police Sgt. David Williams. Covington police are being assisted with the investigation by the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office.
