Connie M. King Receives Girl Scout Thanks Badge
On April 17, Connie M. King of Covington was presented the Thanks Badge at the Virginia Skyline Girl Scout Council Annual Meeting held in Radford. The Thanks Badge may be presented to any registered adult. It is the most prestigious award presented in Girl Scouting, and is reserved for recognition of truly outstanding service to the entire council; service significantly above and beyond the call of duty such that no other award would be appropriate.
Connie has been in Girl Scouting for over 25 years. During that time, she served as a troop leader, troop consultant, delegate to the annual meeting, service unit chairman, Association IV cookie representative, organizer, registrar, and nominating committee member. Two of her troop members were the first ever to receive the Gold Award (the highest award a girl member can earn) in this area. She then led six more girls to the Gold Award.
Presently, Connie is the Virginia Skyline Girl Scout Council Gold Award committee chairman, Covington/Hot Springs cookie cupboard manager and the Covington/Hot Springs Cadette/Senior consultant. As chairman of the Gold Award committee, she has assisted many troops, other than her own, with earning the Gold Award. She has done training, made presentations at the Annual Meets, and helped with Gold Award ceremonies for individual girls.
