The Shadow
On the afternoon of Thursday, April 18, 2024, Alleghany High School welcomed the first-ever Alleghany Cougar Honor Grads with a ceremony and reception held at the school. At promptly 2pm, the ceremony began with assistant principal, Charity Hale, as the emcee.
Timothy Cochran, also an assistant principal at Alleghany High School, kicked things off by saying a few words of welcome to all those present. Cochran then moved on to congratulate all 47 honor graduates, noting that the distinguished honor was a “testament to their hard work, perseverance, and the academic journey that they’ve been through for the last 12+ years.” Cochran continued, “To our graduates, I say congratulations. Your commitment to excellence has not gone unnoticed. Today, we honor you for your outstanding academic achievements you have demonstrated throughout your academic journey.”
Cochran then announced Hale, who took over the event from behind the podium, announcing every honor grad by name. Upon hearing their names, seniors took to the stage, received a medal from Cochran, posed for photos, and were given the opportunity to share their post-graduate plans. The last two names announced were this year’s salutatorian, Victoria Critzer, and valedictorian, Riley Spangler.
