COVINGTON – With less than two months before the season opener, the Covington Lumberjacks have a new skipper running the show in Jacob Walker.

Walker, who recently was dubbed the new manager of the Lumberjacks, is familiar with the area as he spent time with the organization back in summer of 2022 as an assistant to the then head coach Renny Tolentino.

Tolentino spent two years as the Jack’s skipper where he led the team to two postseason appearances. In March, Tolentino joined the coaching staff of the Miami Marlins double-A team in Pensacola, FL, the Blue Wahoos.

As for the newly assigned manager of the Jacks’, Walker is currently the assistant coach at Navarro College in Texas.

The Valley Baseball League kicks off on Friday, May 31st. On that evening, Covington opens up play with an away game at Culpepper. The teams home opener takes place the following evening on Saturday, June 1st against the reigning defending VBL champion Harrisonburg Turks at Casey Field.
