The Mountain Gateway Community College Roadrunners men’s basketball team closed out the regular season splitting their final four games to finish 14-13.
The Roadrunners had picked up their third win of their prior last four contests following an 85-79 home win over Oxford College of Emory University.
Despite a 13-point halftime deficit, the Eagles stormed back in the second half to bring the game within single digits. However, led by Dae Dae Bowens 23-point, 23-rebound performance, the MGCC hung on for their 13th win of the season. It was Bowens eighth 20-rebound contest of the season.
MGCC would then drop their next two contests, including a 15-point home loss to Patrick & Henry College. PHCC put together a strong second half in which they outscored the Roadrunners 52-33 after trailing by four points at the end of the first half. Anthony Harrison had a game-high 22 points.
Camp Community College would hand Mountain Gateway their second straight loss. CCC outscored MGCC 53-41 in the first half and were led by Kemari Artis’ game-high 31 points. As a team they shot 50% from the 3-point line (11-for-22). Bowens led the team in scoring with 26 points off of the bench.
Mountain Gateway closed out the regular season with a big 103-80 home division win over Virginia Peninsula. It was a huge night for Bowens who scored a season-high 42 points and was 17-for-17 at the free throw line. The Roadrunners as a team were 27-for-34 at the foul line.
