The Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash which involved a fatality in Alleghany County. The crash occurred at 9:23 a.m. on Interstate 64 at the 23.3-mile marker on the westbound side of the Interstate,
A 2019 GMC SUV was traveling west on Interstate 64 when the vehicle struck a 2013 tractor-trailer, which was also traveling west, in the rear.
The female driver of the SUV was wearing her seatbelt and an 11-month-old male juvenile, which was properly secured in a child safety seat in the rear of the SUV, were injured and transported to LewisGale, Alleghany Hospital.
The 11-month-old male juvenile died at the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team and the Virginia State Police Commercial Motor Carrier Unit assisted with the crash.
