*The Virginian Review has received the following update from Virginia State Police regarding the officer involved shooting that occurred on Friday night, December 8 in Clifton Forge.*

At the request of Chief Chad Wickline with the Clifton Forge Police Department, the Virginia State Police, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Salem Division is investigating an Officer Involved Shooting which occurred outside the Clifton Forge Police Department.
The incident occurred at 9:37 p.m. Friday evening, (Dec 8), when a Clifton Forge Police Officer exited the rear of the building. The officer was assaulted and pushed to the ground by a 24-year-old black male with a knife. While the officer was on the ground, the subject advanced on the officer and was shot. The attack was an unprovoked, ambush style attack.
The attacker was flown by helicopter to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for the treatment of life-threatening injuries.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the Virginia State Police will turn the findings and evidence over to the Alleghany County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office for adjudication.
The suspect will be identified when warrants are obtained and served. There will be no further comment by the Virginia State Police about this investigation until the subject is identified.
