Lois Joan Kidd Unroe, age 76, of 222 Walker Orchard Road, Eagle Rock, Virginia died Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at her residence.
Joan was born August 23, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Daniel Franklin Kidd and Margaret Elizabeth Nininger Layne. She was a retired clerk for McClung Market in Eagle Rock and also operated the J & R Kwik Mart and Grill in Iron Gate. She was a member of Good News Church in Covington and loved the Christmas season. She enjoyed cooking, NASCAR, and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Layne and a sister, Barbara “Sis” Chesnut.
She is survived by her husband, Michael “Mike” Unroe of Eagle Rock; the father of her three children, Robert Hughes Tolley, Jr.; a daughter, Kristi Renai Dressler and fiancé Manuel Carter of Covington; two sons, Robert “Rocky” Tolley and wife Andi of Clifton Forge, and Jason Tolley and wife Danielle of Lexington; a sister, Stacey Herrell of Fincastle; two brothers, William “Billy” Layne and Marty Layne of Craig County; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Martha and Steve Unroe of Clifton Forge.
In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Mr. Chris Fisher, Reverend Steve Noel, and Reverend Michael Nay officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Alleghany Humane Society, 9313 Rich Patch Road, Covington, VA 24426.
